How To Cancel Your Dropbox Subscription—Steps To Take

The Dropbox cancellation process depends on how you’ve purchased the subscription. If you’re billed by Dropbox directly, you can cancel your subscription on the website by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your Dropbox account on a browser.
  2. Click your profile picture in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
  4. Select Plan
  5. Click Cancel plan at the bottom of the page.
  6. Select a reason for cancellation, then click Continue canceling.
  7. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your cancellation.

Dropbox will send you an email confirmation if the cancellation was successful. Your account will remain active until the end of your current billing cycle, after which it will change to Dropbox Basic (free), and automatic payments will cease

How To Cancel a Dropbox Account on a Mobile Device

To cancel a Dropbox subscription you purchased on your Android or iOS device, follow the steps outlined in the table below:

  1. Launch the Dropbox mobile app.

  2. Tap Account in the bottom right corner.

  3. Select Manage your subscription.

  4. Tap How to cancel.

  5. Tap Cancel plan at the bottom of the screen. You'll be directed to your Google Play subscription settings.

  6. Select Cancel subscription and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the cancellation.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

  2. Tap your name at the top of the screen.

  3. Select Subscriptions.

  4. Select Dropbox from the list and tap Cancel Subscription.

  5. Follow the prompts to confirm cancellation.

Note that deleting the Dropbox app from your device does not cancel your subscription automatically. You need to follow the steps above to ensure that your subscription is canceled and avoid further charges. 

How To Cancel Dropbox via Physical Mail

In case you can't cancel your subscription online, you can do so by mail. To compose your request, you should either:

  • Fill out the Dropbox cancellation template
  • Write a cancellation letter that includes your first and last name, the email address associated with your Dropbox account, and the payment method you used (credit or debit card, PayPal, or Direct Debit)

What Happens to Your Files if You Cancel Dropbox?

After canceling your Dropbox subscription, you’ll still be able to view, download, and delete the files in your account. However, note that the Basic account has a maximum storage limit of 2GB. If you go over this limit, your account will stop syncing to your devices. 

Dropbox also keeps your deleted files and folders for 30 days in case you change your mind and want to reactivate your account. After the 30-day period, Dropbox will delete your files permanently.
